Dj Name: DJ Tul
Genre: Alternative Hip - Hop & Down Tempo
Website: www.bangkoklovestory.com

Tul writes his own songs and heads a rock band called Araija (which means "What Is That?" in Thai). The four-member group was founded five years ago. I wrote most of the songs when I was in high school and they centered on politics, loneliness and life in the city. I am concerned about the serious issues in life.

Tul was born in 1976. He spent all his childhood in Bangkok until 1994 that he got a chance to become an exchange student and went to finish his high school diploma in California. In his high school year, his first love of music started from listening to bands like Skid Row, Guns n' Roses and Metallica. Then after finishing high school in America Tul came back and was stunned when he heard Thai artists like Pathomporn, Crub and Modern Dog. He formed his rock band called Araija and started making demo tapes to record companies;

In 1995 he realized that the market was not ready for his ideas yet. So he decided to stop thinking about the band and went to study in New Zealand, and that's how he met DJ Joke for the first time. However, New Zealand did not have a scene that Tul wanted to explore. After staying there for 6 months he moved to San Diego State University in California to study economics. At San Diego State University library while Tul is reading Rolling Stones interview of the Fugees, he got his first knowledge about a small music school in New York Called Five Towns College that offered a degree program on audio recording. A few months after that he found himself walking around in the capital of the world.

It is NYC downtown scene that got Tul to fall in love with an art of DJing. He started to collect records he usually bought from the flea market and some of the alternative downtown record shops. In 1999 after his graduation Tul spent a few months interning for and underground music/film company call Caipirinha and also volunteered for Gen Art (a non profit organization that promote arts, Indy films and fashions) to create file festivals and fashion shows and parties.

He got his very first DJ gigs at small fashion shows, which he would spin, a mixture of everything from Jazz to trip-hop to punk rock. When Tul came back to Bangkok he started his DJ career at Red Bar, then Taurus (he host an Experimental Global Pop night to Tapaz, a restaurant in Taurus) One night at Red Bar he met up with his old friend from New Zealand, Joeki, who told him about a new place called Q Bar.

His band Araija is back on the run, they have an album on Hualampong Riddim, one of a few avant-garde labels in Thailand, whose artists include Photo Sticker Machine, T-Bone, Day Tripper and Skalaxy. Besides making and playing music, Tul is also working as a sound editor for a an alternative art magazine called VER which is a combination of sight and sound (the magazine comes with 2 audio CDs) Tul is also working on his first compilation album for Q Bar, which will feature Thai underground music; it's due to be out before Q Bar anniversary party this year. He has his dream of pushing Thai artists forward in the world of music.
